I had the chance to visit a nearby site on Lake Murray today, one that I've heard of, but have never before seen.
It was a fishless morning elsewhere, an all too frequent occurrence since I started using soft plastics for bass. As it was Mothers Day, and I only had a few hours, anyway, I carefully laid my expensive rods in the truck and headed on over to the place.*
* I'm just kidding - I don't have any expensive gear.
I just like to say that.
The site is called, "Acapulco USA," and it is primarily a long term camping venue. People rent a space and park a camper here for the entire season, and basically live on the lake as much as they can from March through November. A few live there year round, but they're in the minority.
Similar establishments exist around the lake, but this is unique in that these folks offer no amenities for the non-resident but a boat ramp.
There is a small swimming spot, a little fishing pier, and a couple of picnic tables, but that is it.
NO beer, or other beverages... no Mountain Dew!
No food... not even a hot dog
No tackle... no one sinker
No bait... better have worms of your own.
No fuel... bring your own gas.
I couldn't even get a cup of coffee. "We don't sell *anything*. You gotta bring your own stuff," the guy says to me. His tone suggested he actually didn't like the idea of offering coffee for sale.
Compare this to the other  places on the lake; they turn into a combination circus, trash dump, and traffic jam by lunchtime on Saturday. But since there is little here for the general public, and you have to drive pretty far to NOT have it, you can expect to find little of the "public traffic" found at the other places. Anglers launching boats, a few people fishing, and the "locals" is about it.
The owner put it this way:
"It'll cost you $5 to launch a boat, park, or just hang around. You can bring your wife, all the grandkids, grill some hot dogs, let the youngins swim all they want - same $5. You cant beat that."
He's right. You can't.

Pics have captions, so check those out.

This is the honor system, so pay up and don't try to stiff them!

Contemplation a'plenty....The beach overlook and  doc-building barge

Huge ramp - perfect for those not exactly expert at backing trailers into the water.
Yes, I mean me.

Oh yeah, they also rent boats, if you wanna take a spin.

Thanks for reading and Tight Lines
