FLIP FOCAL LENS and MARABOU

I got this pile of swag as a Father’s Day gift, courtesy of my daughter, Tyanna.
She was on vacation and saw an Orvis store, and went in to check it out. She doesn’t know Orvis from Adam, but it looked like a place to buy a gift of fishing stuff, so…
Her and the kids looked around. It was all kind of puzzling to Tyanna; she doesn’t know much about fly fishing.
But the kids,…they were on top of it. Red and grizzly marabou? This was a no-brainer for them.
My grandkids know I tie flies, and they’ve even tied a few themselves,… and here’s some feathers that are RED! Woohoo!
Problem solved, for them…. Get the feathers and head back to the beach.
But my daughter wanted something a bit more sophisticated. The clerk in the store, after hearing her describe me as, “a guy with everything”…, offered up the lenses as a good choice for an old geezer who fly fishes.
I tip my hat to that guy; he paid attention and nailed it.
The pictures tell all, so I won’t go into the technical specs of these lenses. Instead, here are a few things I like about them.
First is the added security afforded by the pin and clasp attachment on the lenses. Others I have tried lacked that feature, and this beats ‘em by a mile.
Second is the material they are made of: clear polycarbonate. While these are not high grade Swiss optics, they are clear, and without waves or bubbles. This material also keeps them light.
It does take a little “hunting” to get the focal point right - there’s a spot in front where the two lenses come together in your brain to form a single magnified image. That’s the focal point.
So you move the item you’re viewing in and out, till you find it.
This takes getting used to, but it’s quick.
This isn’t the kind of thing I would buy for myself, normally, but I will say…. YOU should, and I WILL if I ever need to replace them.
Obviously, I’m not getting paid to endorse this product; more’s the pity. But I can say they’re worth having.
Now, what to tie with the feathers…..?
